Fred Bremseth is among the nation’s elite trial lawyers.  For over 29 years, Fred has consistently won unparalleled jury verdicts for his clients in a career devoted to representing injured railroad employees and other seriously injured individuals.  Fred has successfully handled catastrophic injury cases in state and federal courts around the country including:  quadriplegia, paraplegia, amputations, brain damage, severe spinal injury, disfigurement and wrongful death.  In addition to his successful FELA practice, Fred has achieved significant verdicts and settlements in medical negligence, auto collisions and product liability cases involving birth defects due to defective drugs.  His verdicts include:

  • $8.9 million for a 49 year-old women rendered a quadriplegic in an auto collision with a semi-truck.
  • $2.99 million for a man fired after being falsely accused of sexual harassment.
  • $2.8 million for a trespasser who had lost both his legs below the knees after being struck by a train.
  • $1.76 million for a locomotive engineer suffering career-ending injuries when a runaway cut of loaded coal cars with defective brakes struck crashed into the locomotive in which he was working.
  • $1.5 million who suffered career ending injuries in a fall from a locomotive due to a defective handhold.
  • $1.0 million for a locomotive engineer who suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and permanent headaches as the result of a head-on collision with another train.

Fred was recently selected as one of the top trial lawyers in Minnesota for 2007, by The American Trial Lawyers Association.  He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Minnesota Million Dollar Round Table, an honor awarded for the number and amounts of his million dollar verdicts. 

Fred has appeared on national television for his precedent-setting drug product liability practice.  Earlier in his career, Fred was appointed by the United States Trustee to represent world-wide victims of the Dalkon Shield, and was elected by his fellow lawyers to serve as vice chairman of the claimants committee.  The Dalkon Shield case ultimately resulted in a settlement exceeding $3 billion, one of the largest mass tort settlements in history.

Lawyers around the country frequently call Fred seeking his advice and assistance, and he is often asked to associate as lead trial counsel due to his courtroom expertise and outstanding results.  Fred has attained the status of Senior Counsel by the American College of Barristers.  He was also elected by his fellow FELA lawyers as Chairman of the Railroad Law Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the largest national association of trial lawyers. 

Fred is a member of the Minnesota and Montana Bar Associations and has been admitted in multiple United States District Courts throughout the Midwest and western states.  He is a member the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys, the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, the Minnesota Association for Justice, the Minnesota Bar Association and the Montana Bar Association.  Fred is a founding member of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, and a life-time member of the Roscoe Pound Foundation and a Sustaining Sponsor of the Civil Justice Foundation.

Fred graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1974.  He earned his law degree with Honors from Hamline University School of Law in 1978, where he was editor of the Hamline Law Review and a member of the Silver Gavel Honors Society.
